NEW: EQuilibrium now offers Compression Boot Therapy for all your recovery needs
The week in numbers (so far)...
Miles ran: 0
Times I've ben to the gym: 4
Weight: Not a clue but my holiday shorts don't fit
Well here we are once again, but this time is a little different as I'm injured and not currently running but today starts my latest 16 week training blog.
So, for some accountability I need to start the blog, I need to stop eating Toblerones and I need to get my arse to the gym so fat Simon doesn't once again make a return.
Today I'm working all day and it's damn hot, I've planned on the gym for 7pm but thinking about going earlier as well to do 20 mins flat out on the stepper but that almost certainly won't happen.
I'm back on the mushroom diet from today after a weekend of partying round Quynh's house and watching lots of Glastonbury on telly with lots of accompanying red wine.
Who did I enjoy watching at Glastonbury? Well thanks for asking.
Highlights for me so far were Weezer, Pulp, Prodigy and Supergrass. I missed Bob Vylan and will now never get to see that set and I need to still catch up on Neil Young and a few others. No great surprises there I guess. Standout performance for me was Kae Tempest, powerful, honest, brutal lyrics that make a 49 years old white heterosexual middle class fella get all choked up. Same happens when I watch Moana which I did that same day so I was feeling a little emotional. It's that bit when Maui leaves her on the boat and her grandma's spirit visits her, gets me right there every time.
Well I didn't go through gym yesterday, too much on and it just didn't happen so I shall go twice today to make up for it.
Busy working but then got a last minute cancellation which gave me 90 mins free to get to the gym and smash out 30 mins on the running machine thing, it's not a treadmill and it's not a cross trainer and I don't know what it's called. If you go to Waves it's in the corner next to the stair climber thing. I also did 15 mins on the stairs climber thing.
Then back home for more work and then off to the Poly gym for an hour of core and kettlebells whilst listening to The Prodigy.
I've hardly ran now for 8 weeks, the first few weeks didn't bother me as it was nice to rest after all the marathon training but I'm now officially sick of not running and the gym is utterly boring and very sweaty.
I'm away on Thurs and Fri this week so I've squeezed a week's worth of work into 3 days, today is a stupidly busy day but I also need to go to the gym to punish myself for the dairy milk bar I ate yesterday.
And the Magnum.
And the other Magnum.
I say Magnum, it was the Aldi knock off version, I'm not Elon Musk and by that I mean I'm not rich, but equally not a Nazi.
So, I didn't get to the gym. When the time came I just couldn't muster up any enthusiasm and instead had a snooze on the settee with Murph and then later I had a pint in the pub and both these things were far more pleasurable than going to the gym.
I've stopped weighing myself whilst I'm not running, it's to depressing and it'll annoy me too much.
No work today.
No gym today.
Lots of booze today.
Today me and Mrs J are driving across the country to Lytham to attend Lytham Festival where I will be fulfilling a long held ambition and seeing the absolute legend that is Stevie Wonder in concert.
I've talked about my love for Stevie many times, he's up there with Nick Cave, The Sugababes and Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine and I can't wait for this.
So a few beers before we head along and then some well hidden bottles of red wine decanted into drink pouches and shoved down our pants and we're in and waiting for Stevie. I should clarify here, when I say 'our pants' I am of course not talking about Mrs J as she's way too civilised and classy for that short of thing. This was me and my brother in law Jim, we share the same standards and morals so have no issue with this sort of behaviour.
Anyway, Stevie Wonder was everything I expected him to be. Wore a superb bright red jewel encrusted outfit with Bob Marley and Malcolm X on it and played the hits and some lesser know album stuff, the guy is a ero of mine and I loved every second of it.
On the way out we also bumped into Ian Brown of The Stone Roses which made me doubly happy.
Trebly happy if you count drinking pints of red wine smuggled in your pants as a good thing, which I most certainly do.
Up and awake with a slight hangover.
Our for breakfast and then the drive home.
Home and then a bath where I listened to the new Kar Tempest album and the new Big Special album and then fell asleep on my bed for an hour.
What a day.
It's Saturday, it's Parkrun day.
I'm not doing parkrun.
My leg still hurts and I haven't ran now for a week, think I'm going to take another week off and then see where I'm at.
Out to the gym early, 30 mins on the runny machine thing and 30 mins of core stuff on the floor.
Very sweaty, and very boring but it's gotta be done.
Home, breakfast and then a trip to IKEA to look at kitchens.
I am a the epitome of a rock and roll lifestyle.
That's it, my life when devoid of running is incredibly dull. To be fair when I run it's still very dull but at least I have a few more things to say.
So strap yourselves in for some boring blogs until I'm back out running again.
Want to read all about my London adventure in 2023.
